In-demand Tau in no rush to leave Masandawana

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns fans can breathe a sigh of relief after star forward Percy Tau admitted he is in no rush to leave the Champions of Africa anytime soon.

Tau, 23, has enjoyed a meteoric rise with the Brazilians over the past 18 months and more recently the South Africa national team, from being shipped out on-loan to National First Division side Witbank Spurs in 2016, to winning the CAF Champions League title in 2017.

"Where I am is where I am, I don't think there should be any pressure on [moving abroad]. I think I'm still playing in one of the top leagues in Africa," he told Kickoff.

All the recent success comes down to application and astute coaching, with Pitso Mosimane identifying Tau's high level of anticipation, positional sense and off the ball movement to convert him into a false nine. Throughout his youth career at the Brazilians he featured on the left flank.

And now with three goals in his first eight caps for Bafana Bafana, the Downs youth product admits he's pleased to be working with coach Stuart Baxter.

"I'm happy to be working with coach Stuart at the national team, he's a top coach and he understands a lot of things," he said. "He gets into the players' minds easily and that shows how smart he is.

"At the club, I'm happy to work with coach Pitso. I am where I am because of the work that he has done with me, and the faith he has in me.

"Also how we won the Champions League [in 2016], it shows that he is a top coach. He's won coach of the year in Africa and it shows his quality. He's also very experienced.

"For sure they both demand so much and they've got similar qualities, and even though I've only spent a few times with Stuart, I think there's still so much to learn from him."

The Brazilians next travel to the Sisa Dukashe Stadium to face the always dangerous Chippa United in a Telkom Knockout clash.

Kick off is at 15:30.
