'I was relieved when I scored', says Pule

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates midfielder Vincent Pule says it was an 'emotional' experience scoring the winner in the 1-0 victory over AmaZulu at Orlando Stadium on Saturday evening.

Pule grabbed the only goal of the game as Pirates claimed their fifth win in six games as new German mentor Josef Zinnbauer remains unbeaten in his time at the helm.

"It's been a while since I've scored, I think the last goal was against Chiefs (in the league match on November 2, 2019). So, I was a bit emotional," the 27-year-old told KickOff.

"When you are a person that loves scoring goals, and things are not falling for you, you can become emotional and I was relieved when I scored."

Pule added that the passing of club chairman Irvin Khoza's wife, Mantoa Khoza, earlier last week took its toll on the club as a whole and hope the victory could ease the pain.

"As for the message, we also have to play for Mme Mantoa – may her soul rest in peace. I think we played good football for her today,” he said.

"I think we are working hard as a team; we have a good spirit now and we have to continue. In the first round we didn’t play well, but this round we know at least where we are going."

The Buccaneers travel to the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday for clash against Chippa United.

Kick-off is at 15:30.
