Hunt proud of 'unbelievable' McCarthy

Cape Town - Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt is proud of the success that his former player Benni McCarthy has enjoyed within a short period since moving into coaching.

Hunt gave a 16-year old McCarthy his professional debut at Seven Stars in 1995, and the Bafana Bafana record-goal scorer has had two impressive years since his appointment as Cape Town City's coach.

He last weekend led the Citizens to the MTN8 trophy after defeating SuperSport United 4-1 on penalties.

"To be fair, really, I'm very, very proud of what he has achieved in such a short space of time," Hunt told SuperSport Thursday Night.

"And what I like about the whole thing is that he has gone out and got educated more. I don't care if you are the best player in the world; you have got to do coaching education.

"What has impressed me in Benni's situation, is that he wants to do better and is passionate about it. Nobody has played and achieved at his level as a player.

"Unbelievable. I know where he has come from, that has been fantastic. Two years and he has been to two cup finals."
