Hunt laughs off sacking rumours

Cape Town - Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt says rumours of his imminent sacking is 'complete rubbish', amid talk of Gordon Igesund taking over the reins.

The Premiership champions have endured the worst start to a new season by any reigning title winner in the history of South African football.

Four losses, two draws and only one win in the Students' opening seven games has seen the pressure mount on Hunt, who's been rumoured to have fallen out with many of the current squad members.

According to reports in the local media, certain players have become disillusioned after losing their place in the starting XI to off-season arrivals, while veteran goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs has also come into question for his public criticism of the squad.

But when asked about the Igesund speculation, Hunt told IOL: "Absolute rubbish."

Having conceded 11 goals and scoring only five in their seven games, the usually defensively resolute Hunt is said to be on the lookout for new acquisitions already.

"We are missing goalkeeper Darren Keet, who has a knee problem, and we are not sure when he will be fit to play. On top of that, most of my first-choice defenders are injured and we are struggling at the back," he said.

"I am hoping that Thulani Hlatshwayo and Nazeer Allie (red-carded against Kaizer Chiefs recently) will both be available for our next league game at home to SuperSport United on October 17.

"During the festive-season transfer window period, we will need to bring in another goalkeeper and two centre-backs."
