Highlands Park too good for Chippa

Cape Town - Highlands Park were good value for their 2-0 victory over Chippa United at Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa on Saturday night.

Highlands move up to fourth on the Absa Premiership table, while Chippa remain rooted to the bottom.

It was an evenly contested affair in the opening exchanges with no clear-cut scoring opportunities created as both sides' defences held firm.

The Lions of the North began to assert their dominance on the encounter, dominating possession and territory while Chippa were content to get men behind the ball and spring on the counter-attack whenever possible.

The hosts broke the deadlock in the 20th minute. There was a horrible mix up at the back from the Chilli Boys as Tendai Ndoro's delivery in to the box was tapped home from close range by Spiwe Msimango with no one taking responsibility at the back for Chippa in clearing the ball away.

On the half-hour mark, Silas Maziya's long-range strike went narrowly wide of the left-hand upright as the visitors looked for a response.

Owen da Gama's side doubled their lead in the 67th minute when Ndoro spun his marker and unleashed a volley at goal that bounced just before Tignyemb on its way in to the back of the net.

Soon after, Ndoro's long-range strike grazed the crossbar as he almost grabbed a brace.

With 15 minutes to go, Twala bent in a brilliant cross in from the left-hand side to Augustine Chidi in the box, but the Chippa substitute striker could not got end of the it when he really should have done better.

In the 89th minute, Peter Shalulile played Jerry Msane in behind the Chilli Boys' defence but he could not beat Chippa goalkeeper Patrick Tignyemb.
