Highlands Park confirm PSL promotion

Cape Town - Highlands Park will play Absa Premiership football next season, this following a 2-0 win over Mbombela United at the Makhulong Stadium on Wednesday.

A brace from Peter Shalulile confirming their place in South Africa's top flight for the 2016/2017 campaign with two Premier Soccer League promotion/relegation playoff games remaining.

The result also confirms AmaTuks' relegation to the National First Division where they will join Mbombela United next season.

Highlands Park knew that all three points against Mbombela would confirm their promotion and the hosts got the ball rolling in right direction as early as the 13th minute.

Shalulile gifted  the opener by United goalkeeper Thato Xaba who's attempted clearance fell at the feet of the Namibia international - the Highlands Park striker making no mistake to guide the ball into an empty net.

The early goal set the tone for the match with Mbombela United forced to push forward as they aimed to keep their hopes of top flight football alive.

But, the Lions of the North held firm and having survived a few nervy moments at the back the hosts confirmed their promotion alongside Nfd champions Baroka FC.

Shalulile completing his double on 82 minutes - the reported Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United transfer target weaved his way into the penalty area before sliding the ball past Xaba to ignite wild celebrations in Tembisa.

Highlands Park (1) 2 (Shalulile 13' 82')

Mbombela United (0) 0
