Cape Town - Highlands Park has reportedly made inquiries with the representative of former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Hendrick Ekstein towards possibly securing his signature.
Ekstein was surprisingly released towards the end of the 2018/19 season by Chiefs despite the fact that coach Ernst Middendorp had said he was one of the best players he had ever coached.
The 28-year-old is now a free agent and can be snapped up by any other Absa Premiership side ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.
'Pule' was a fans' favourite of Amakhosi's faithful as some loved the naturally creative instincts of the forward whereas others were frustrated by his lack of end product when it came to goals and assists.
Nonetheless, it seems his career could be set for a kick-start with the Lions of the North should negotiations prove successful and a deal is agreed.
A source told KickOff: "Highlands Park have made inquiries. At the moment no concrete offer has been made.
"The club is still finalising the players to be released to accommodate the budget to buy new players."
Highlands' coach Owen da Gama has already revealed eight players will be released to try and create greater financial firepower to bring in some new talent.
