Cape Town - Cape Town City assistant coach Vasili Manousakis revealed the club are deciding whether or not to potentially sign former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Hendrick Ekstein.
Ekstein was released by Chiefs towards the end of the season after it became clear he and the club could not agree on terms on a deal which both parties were happy with.
The 28-year-old was till that point in time enjoying a decent season under coach Ernst Middendorp where he had scored five goals in 27 games in all competitions.
However, he did not do enough to earn a bumper new contract and was shown the exit door by Glamour Boys management.
Nonetheless, Manousakis say the Citizens are assessing the possibility of signing the player ahead of 2019/20.
He told KickOff: "He was offered to us you know. The coach knows about it and we have something to explore.
"He is a decent player, but we don't know if we have the ability to land him, we don't know what the player's contractual demands are.
"So it's something that's been mentioned, it's on the radar. But you know if we don't get him it's okay if we do get him...but it's just been a discussion, that's all it's been. I'm saying it will depend on the coach.
"The coach likes the boy but it will depend on what his demands are, what his package is, his salary, what is he expecting. You've got to look at all those things... why he didn't renew at Chiefs...
"So yeah, it is a name that's come up and I'm sure it's something that the coach and the chairman will discuss in the next few weeks."
