Cape Town - Orlando Pirates have confirmed that Edwin Gyimah has been released by the club, as per his request.

According to the club's official website, the defender submitted his request before he went on international duty to represent Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations.

"Orlando Pirates Football Club has parted ways with Edwin Gyimah," read the statement.

"The Club has agreed to release the player as per his request.

"Gyimah had submitted a request in writing prior to his departure to the African Cup of Nations where he was to go on national duty with Ghana.

The incident was recorded on a cellphone video camera and went viral the following day.

Meanwhile, club chairperson Irvin Khoza announced that Mayfair side will announce the club's new head coach on Monday, February 20.
