Grobler on target again as SuperSport edge Baroka FC

Cape Town - SuperSport United earned a well-deserved 2-0 victory over Baroka FC at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday night.

SuperSport were dominant in the early exchanges and had a first attempt on goal in the fifth minute. A long throw-in from Siyabonga Nhlapo found Thamsanqa Gabuza in the area, but his header was well saved by Elvis Chipezeze in goal.

Soon after, Evans Rusike had an opportunity, but his strike went narrowly wide of the target. In the 12th minute, Baroka had their first real opportunity as Kagiso Selemela sent a well-hit half-volley over the bar.

Bakgaga were on top and in the 22nd minute, Ronwen Williams saved SuperSport with a fine save to deny a powerful long-range effort from Gerald Phiri Jnr.

Just before the break, Gabuza came close to adding to his tally with United as his shot flicked off the crossbar.

In the 52nd minute, it was 1-0 as Bradley Grobler converted expertly for his fifth goal of the season. Teboho Mokoena came close to a second not long afterwards.

Jamie Webber sealed the points in injury time with a stunning long-range strike as Matsatsantsa came away with all three points.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
