Cape Town - SuperSport United defender Morgan Gould and his coach Eric Tinkler say the 1-0 victory over Kaizer Chiefs was a massive result.

Matsatsansa knocked Amakhosi out of the quarter-finals of the MTN8 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday evening - with Jeremy Brockie's sixth minute strike.

However, the slender scoreline doesn't tell the full story with the Soweto giants dominating possession and chances throughout the heated encounter.

Nonetheless, Gould, a former league title winner with Chiefs and current SuperSport Player of the Year paid homage to his new head coach's tactical awareness to secure their passage way to the semi-finals of the Cup competition.

"We knew that they going to come at us, they have skillful and pacy players," Gould told SuperSport TV. "I think we stuck to the game plan, it worked out for us a team and fortunately enough we are in the next round."

Tinkler, who arrived at the Tshwane-based outfit to succeed Stuart Baxter, conceded his side were on the back-foot but commended the clinical performance of his troops.

"Obviously as coaches we always want to win every game and Steve is no different to me. Every game you go in to with the mentality that you want to win the game," the former Cape Town City boss said.

"Like Steve said, today did they dominated the game, yes. Did they create the most opportunities, yes. Did they hit the crossbar three times, yes. We had one chance and we scored. That's football."
