Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs defender Lorenzo Gordinho says his club has 'the best players in the league' but need to improve on the mental side of their game.
Going into the final two months of the season, Amakhosi had been very much in the title race. But Chiefs have conceded injury time goals in each of their last three games to pick up only two points in that period.
This has left them sitting in fifth place, 10 points behind pacesetters Bidvest Wits.
Head coach Steve Komphela will be hoping his side can put things right with a strong end to the season, with a place in African competition still up for grabs.
"Obviously the coach (Steve Komphela) wasn't happy about conceding these goals," Gordinho admitted.
"He pointed out to us that we need to be more ruthless as a team, and that we need to kill games off when we get the chances. Also that we need to defend stronger."
Decision making is another key factor, as Gordinho explained:
"He also said that it's a mental thing. We are not lacking fitness and we are not lacking tactical discipline. Technically, we have the best players in the league. It's just about the mental aspect of the game and making the right decisions."
On a personal note, Gordinho is happy with his progression. He has played in 22 league games and scored four goals from his central defensive position, improving on his tally of 16 league matches and three goals last season.
"It's been a good season for me," he said. "I have played most of the games. It's been nice to know that I have become more regular in that position and I'm doing well for the team, and I'm just looking forward to next season to continue where I left off."
Chiefs are next in action when they take on Polokwane City away from home on Saturday evening.
