Gamal has to work harder to reach full potential, says Hunt

Cape Town - Despite scoring three goals in his last three matches, Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt feels Egyptian striker Amr Gamal has far more to offer.

Gamal scored a brace when the Clever Boys beat Free State Stars 4-2 in the Telkom Knockout. After failing to hit the net in a 2-0 defeat to Chippa in the league, he notched the winner in his side's 1-0 victory over Baroka FC last weekend in the TKO quarter-finals.

Hunt holds the 26-year-old, who is on a season-long loan from Al Ahly, in high regard, but feels his shaky English, combined with poor positioning and a questionable attitude, means that the player not delivering on his full potential.

"He doesn't understand me," Hunt was quoted as saying by the Star. "He's [facing] a totally different mentality to what he's used to. There is one man and a dog watching him here when he's used to playing in front of 60 000 every week at Al Ahly.

"He is in the Egyptian World Cup squad. The players around him (for Egypt) are [Mohammed] Salah and these other guys. It's a bit of a shock to the system coming here.

"But here you've got to work, my friend. I don't have Salah and these other ones in midfield that are going to give you the ball on a plate like that. You've got to work a little bit harder here.

"I think if he stayed in the box a little bit more he'd be much better. But he moves a little too much. He's even got me talking Arabic."

HUnt will be hoping Gamal who has scored 5 goals in 11 appearances continues his goal-scoring form when Wits face Kaizer Chiefs in the semi-final of the Telkom Knockout cup on November 19.

Kick off is at 15:30.
