FS Stars reach semis after shootout win

Cape Town - Free State Stars qualified for the Nedbank Cup semi-finals after beating Ubuntu Cape Town in a penalty shootout on Saturday.

Stars won the shootout 4-2, after the game was deadlocked at 1-1 following extra time.

Ea Lla Koto goalkeeper Thela Ngobeni was his side’s hero at Athlone Stadium as he saved two penalties in the shootout.

The National First Division claimed the lead in the 28th minute when Taahir Ganga headed home.

Stars equalised in the 44th minute when Goodman Dlamini sent a superb long-range strike into the back of the net.

The scoreline remained 1-1 until a penalty shootout was needed.
