Mabhuti Khanyeza has ambitions to become one of the "best and most successful coaches" from KwaZulu-Natal.
The 37-year-old former Bafana international is currently head coach of GladAfrica Championship TS Galaxy having left his post as assistant at AmaZulu.
There was a certain measure of controversy surrounding his departure, with Usuthu expected to take some legal recourse over a breach of contract.
Khanyeza though has spoken highly of his former employers as he looks forward to a new chapter in his career.
Speaking to IOL, Khanyeza said: "I respect AmaZulu, they are a big team. They are professional and very organised and they have a rich history.
"I was too small for that institution. That’s why I needed to go to a smaller team that will fit my profile as a coach so that I’ll grow with this team.
"AmaZulu need someone with experience and who has been around for a while. There’s nothing bad that I can say about AmaZulu."
Khanyeza began his coaching career in 2018 as assistant to Maritzburg United coach Muhsin Ertugral before joining Cavin Johnson and Jozef Vukusic at Usuthu.
Looking ahead to a productive coaching career, Khanyeza added: "I want to be the best and most successful coach from KwaZulu-Natal.
"Staying in KZN and be in a comfort zone won't elevate me to greater heights. Where I'm heading to is much more important.
"Sometimes the biggest mistake that we make as black people is that we allow our background to determine our fate. We tend to underestimate ourselves."
Khanyeza made 10 appearances for Bafana Bafana between 2003-2009 and represented a string of PSL sides, including Golden Arrows, Kaizer Chiefs, Ajax Cape Town, Mamelodi Sundowns, SuperSport United and Mpumalanga Black Aces.
