Five Sundowns stars up for CAF award

Cape Town - Five Mamelodi Sundowns stars have been nominated for the African Player of the Year award for players based in Africa, following their exploits for the club in the CAF Champions League.

Goalkeeper Dennis Onyango, defensive midfielder Hlompho Kekana, winger Keagan Dolly, forward Khama Billiat and striker Yannick Zakri have all been nominated to the 25-man shortlist.

The quintuplet of Brazilians have all been influential over the last 12 months and join a star-studded list of nominees for the prestigious honour.

Downs beat Zesco to advance to the final of the CCL where they currently enjoy a 3-0 first leg lead over Zamalek. The second leg is due to be played this coming weekend with Pitso Mosimane's men appearing to be strong favourites.

Billiat is considered to be one of the favourites to win the award as the Zimbabwe international has been arguably Sundowns' most outstanding performer for the club.
