Fish ponders on tough Pirates question

Cape Town - Legendary Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates defender Mark Fish says that it is ‘difficult’ to compare the 1995 Buccaneers side with the current crop.

The 41-year-old was part of the 1995 squad that claimed the CAF Champions League against Ivorian side, ASEC Mimosas.

This year's Pirates team find themselves in the CAF Confederation Cup final against Tunisian side, Etoile du Sahel.

The Buccaneers were held to a 1-1 draw in the first leg at Orlando Stadium last Saturday and will be hoping they can leave Tunisia with the trophy on Sunday, November 29 in the return leg.

Fish sidestepped the question when asked to compare the 1995 generation to the current side and insisted that both sides have qualities.

“It is very difficult to compare the ‘95 team to the current one because both teams have qualities that the other may not have,” Fish told Soccer Laduma.

“But I always say, ‘Once a Pirate, always a Pirate!’ Our chairman, Dr Irvin Khoza, was the driving force behind our success, though.”

Kick-off is at 20:30.
