Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns will look to end their involvement in the FIFA Club World Cup with a win over Korean side Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC on Wednesday.
The Brazilians lost their first match in the continental competition 2-0 to Japanese outfit Kashima Antlers, who booked their place in the semi-finals thanks to goals from Yasushi Endo and Mu Kanazaki.
Jeonbuk, meanwhile, were defeated in their quarter-final tie 2-1 by Club America from Mexico, where Kim Bo Kyung's opener was cancelled out by a brace from Silvio Romero.
The two sides will now face off for the battle for fifth place overall, in the first meeting of these Asian and African champions, at the Suita City Football Stadium in Osaka on Wednesday.
Jeonbuk, who were formed in 1994, have already won the K-League four times, and are three-time Korean FA Cup winners.
After being crowned Asian Champions League winners in 2006, they became the first team in the world to win a continental crown before claiming their domestic title.
Ahead of this eagerly-awaited tie, Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane, who saw his side dominate the first half against Kashima Antlers before succumbing to two second-half goals, told FIFA: "When we create so many chances at home, we end up scoring and winning the game.
"But at the Club World Cup, it’s not as easy. We showed a little bit of inexperience in the final third and we have a little more work to do. We need to come back and fight again."
They missed out on a potential semi match-up with Colombia's Atletico Nacional as Jeonbuk saw their hopes of facing Real Madrid fade away.
Jeonbuk head coach Choi Kanghee added: "It's been a very positive experience despite the defeat. The competition’s not over yet and we have to prepare ourselves for the next match, both physically and mentally. We have to show just how much we want to play."
While Sundowns are reporting a clean bill of health for this tie, Jeonbuk have two players out, in Soon-Tae Kwon, with a broken shinbone, while Ricardo Lopes damaged an Anterior cruciate knee ligament.
