Cape Town - Cape Town City defender Taariq Fielies believes his partnership in central defence with Edmilson Dove has the potential to be a huge success in future.
Fielies and Dove were used together in last weekend's 3-0 victory over AmaZulu at the Cape Town Stadium, despite the latter being considered more of a full-back.
More recognised centre-backs such as Kwanda Mngonyama and Keanu Cupido were unavailable for the game due to suspension and injury respectively, forcing coach Benni McCarthy into making the change.
Fielies told KickOff website: "To have been able to combine with Dove so well first-time round was fantastic.
"We both adapted very well under the circumstances. The communication and the understanding between us was spot-on. It's like a match made in heaven, you know.
"I think Dove's versatility is great for the team and I'm really looking forward to playing with him again in central defence."
The 26-year-old scored in the contest and said he is still targeting six goals come the end of the 2018/19 campaign.
He concluded: "I'm just glad that I can contribute to the team in more ways than one you know. It's very rewarding, especially if you as defender can also chip in with a goal or two for the team.
"I said before the start of the season that I want to at least have six goals, so there's still a long way to go and hopefully I can achieve that."
The Citizens are next in action on 11 November when they face Black Leopards on home soil.
