Fernandez to join Highlands Park as goalkeeper coach

Cape Town - Former Kaizer Chiefs number one Rowen Fernandez is set to sign for Highlands Park as the club's goalkeeper coach.

Fernandez enjoyed a lengthy spell as first choice at Naturena from 2001 until 2007 after succeeding Brian Baloyi in goal.

However, he was eventually eclipsed by current incumbent Itumeleng Khune and left to further his career in Germany's Bundesliga with Arminia Bielefeld.

After finishing his career with Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United respectively, he moved into coaching and was most recently Orlando Pirates' goalkeeper coach.

Nonetheless, a source has said he is on the verge of putting pen to paper with the Lions of the North to join Owen da Gama's technical team.

The source said: "Fernandez has completed the deal with Highlands Park, they finalised everything today."
