Eymael confirms Phungwayo signing

Cape Town - Free State Stars coach Luc Eymael says the club has signed former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana left-back Patrick Phungwayo.

The 29-year-old former Bidvest Wits defender was released by Pirates last week, but now looks set to join former Bucs team-mates Rooi Mahamutsa and Sello Japhta at Ea Lla Koto.

It has been reported that Phungwayo has penned a one-year deal with the Bethlehem-based club.

Eymael says he has been impressed by the left-footer and will be hoping he proves a valuable addition to the squad.

"We have signed Phungwayo," the Belgian told SoccerLaduma. "He looks good in training. I was surprised when I saw him and the quality in him because I heard a lot of stories that he was overweight and all that. He seems okay for me."

Meanhile Orlando Pirates defender Happy Jele has been released on R1000 bail after being arrested for speeding after being clocked at 223km/hour in a 120km/h zone in the early hours of Monday morning.

The Gauteng Province Department of Community Safety released a statement confirming that the 30-year-old was detained for his reckless driving.
