Ex-Orlando Pirates defender on verge of Usuthu deal

Cape Town - Former Orlando Pirates and Cape Town City defender Tshepo Gumede is reportedly on the verge of signing a deal with AmaZulu.

Gumede was a superb performer for City in 2016/17 making 28 appearances in the Absa Premiership.

However, in his second season he fell out of favour and was released in June last year by the Citizens.

Prior to his spell in the Mother City, the 27-year-old spent two season with the Sea Robbers but was unable to establish himself.

Nonetheless, Gumede played under current Usuthu boss Cavin Johnson from their time together at Platinum Stars, and it seems they are set to re-unite.

Johnson is a big admirer of the Dobsonville-born player and a deal is said to be on the table for the centre-back.

Soccer Laduma said: "The Siya crew have been informed that talks between the club and Gumede are at an advanced stage, with Johnson eager to work with the central defender once again."
