Ex-Chiefs star won't do favours for Amakhosi

Cape Town - Former Kaizer Chiefs and current AmaZulu forward Ovidy Karuru says he owes the Glamour Boys no favours as Usuthu take on league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns on Friday.

Karuru made just five appearances in his two-year stay with Amakhosi although his fortunes have improved with AmaZulu where he has become a first team regular under coach Cavin Johnson.

Nonetheless, while the Zimbabwe star wishes Chiefs well ahead of their Soweto derby clash with Orlando Pirates on Saturday, he feels the Naturena-based outfit must control their own destiny.

The team from Durban go into the clash with Downs looking for a rare double over Masandawana after beating them 2-1 in the first round of the campaign.

"I am positive that we can beat Sundowns again. We are very motivated because we know that they are beatable. It was no fluke to beat them in the first round," the 29-year-old said.

"Yes, as a former Chiefs player I want coach Steve [Komphela] to win the league but that does not mean I must do them favours against Sundowns.

"I do not like it when people ridicule coach Steve about not having won anything but my focus is not on that. I want to help my team achieve great things as well.

"When we beat them nobody had given us a chance. I think they will want to avenge because we hurt them."

Kick-off is at 18:00.
