Ajax boss Ertugral unhappy with missed chances

Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town head coach Muhsin Ertugral has bemoaned his charges' missed chances against Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Urban Warriors came up short against the Absa Premiership giants as they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at the Cape Town Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Fagrie Lakay gave the home side the lead in the 26th minute only for Ajax to shrink and allow Sundowns back into the match courtesy of a Ricardo Nascimento spot-kick and classy finish from Sibusiso Vilakazi.

“Firstly, we were playing against a team that knows what they are doing so it doesn't come overnight,” Ertugral told SuperSport TV.

“You can see the passes, the movement and the organisation the moment we open the one side. When you open one side they come from the other side. When you close one side the other is open. So, they are actually a brilliant team.”

Ertugral continued, “The first 20 minutes we could have had the second one (goal) and maybe the third (goal). Obviously after that we were on the back foot through a penalty.

“Immediately after that we were disorganised at the back, but we came back in the second-half, we had three chances again. They did well but in the end, this is not our class.

“We need to work on our patterns so we can be as fast as possible against teams we have on the lockdown,” Ertugral added.

Ajax currently occupy 15th position in the standings and welcome fellow league strugglers Platinum Starts to the Mother City for an interesting match at Cape Town Stadium on Friday.

Kick-off is at 20:00.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
