Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp believes that new signing Daniel Akpeyi offers composure, good communication skills and tactical discipline.
The Nigerian was signed in the January transfer window from Chippa United as Chiefs seemingly attempted to solve their goalkeeping problems.
Itumeleng Khune is out injured for the rest of the season whereas current number one Virgil Vries has made a number of high-profile howlers for the Glamour Boys.
Bruce Bvuma and Brylon Petersen appear to be not ready for first team action meaning Akpeyi could start for Chiefs in the Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates on Saturday at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.
Middendorp told the side's official website: "Akpeyi is calm and has a physical presence. He communicates well with his defensive line and is good in dictating tactics at the back."
The Nigeria shot-stopper was a part of the Super Eagles 2018 World Cup squad though played no part in the tournament.
He said of his move to Amakhosi and potentially playing in the derby this weekend: "That's one thing I was looking forward to doing in South Africa, playing in the Champions League.
"Chiefs have the will and the quality to do well in Africa and I would like to contribute to do that.
"It's one of the most famous derbies in the world. Just to be part of that experience will be something fantastic, independent of if I play or not."
Kick-off is at 15:30.
