Efstathiou: Margeman will be a hit at Sundowns

Ajax Cape Town boss Ari Efstathiou says Mamelodi Sundowns have signed "probably the best prospect in South Africa" in Grant Margeman.

The 21-year-old midfielder was snapped up by Downs in February but will only link up with his new team next season.

Masandawana had already also confirmed deals for Jody February and George Maluleka, but Efstathiou says Margeman is on a different level.

Speaking during a Zoom meeting with the South African Football Journalist's Association, the Urban Warriors boss has tipped Margeman to be a success.

"Grant is probably the best prospect in SA, in that (midfield) position at the moment, he's an unbelievable player.

"Sundowns have been interested in him for the last couple of years – maybe three – and we've held on tightly. I think now we've done a good enough deal with Sundowns, considering we're from the NFD and not in the PSL.

"But I think it would have been much better had we been campaigning in the PSL and selling him from there."

He added: "I think Grant will be a huge success at Sundowns, he's an unbelievably talented boy and he was very young, but I think he's gotten married now and he's got a child, so he's settled down, and he's completely focused towards doing well.

"He'll be the hit of the season for Sundowns next year, I have no doubt."
