'Downs seek Zungu replacement

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane revealed the club may have found a replacement for Bongani Zungu, who will leave the Brazilians for Vitoria de Guimaraes at the end of the season.

Mosimane was emotional when he talked about the midfielder's departure from the club.

"I feel like a father when he has to hand over his daughter to get married to someone else, you're happy but not happy," Mosimane said, right after being announced as the Coach of the Month for November-December, with the Player of the Month nod going to Bidvest Wits' Phakamani Mahlambi.

"It's that kind of feeling. He has done well since we took him from Tuks. I don't think he regrets coming here, he is a regular at Bafana Bafana now.

"He has won two cups and the league with us. He played in the CAF Champions League against TP Mazembe. We did well on our side to take him to the level he is but he also played a role because he is coachable.

"We are looking for someone who will replace Bongani but at this point in time we have three good midfielders in Keke (Hlompho Kekana), Teko (Modise) and (Asavela) Mbekile also plays in midfield. For now we are still okay but the profile of Bongani Zungu is not easy to find."

Mosimane will use Zungu against SuperSport United in the Tshwane Derby on Saturday and until the end of the season. But after that, his replacement could come from South America.

"I can tell you already that we have sent a scout to look for a player with a similar profile to Bongani Zungu because it's unlike most players," Mosimane added.

"The tickets are ready for people to fly and find that replacement. We already have a hit from South America. They have said: 'coach, we have found the type of player you are looking for'.

"I am getting the footage today (Thursday) to see if that player can be better than Bongani. We are on top of it."
