'Downs return to Champions League with AS Vita disqualified

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns have been reinstated to the CAF Champions League after AS Vita were disqualified for fielding a suspended player.

Fresh from being crowned Absa Premier Soccer League Champions, Sundowns have been thrown a CAF Champions League lifeline.

According to the Brazilians website, the Congo side were founded guilty of fielding ineligible players in their encounters against Tshwane side.

CAF has advised South African Football Association that Sundowns would be re-instated in the Champions League, and would be included in the Group Stages Draw which takes place in Cairo on Tuesday, May 24.

Sundowns lost their tie against AS Vita on the away goals rule when they beat the Congo side 2-1 after losing 1-0 in on their home turf.

The breakthrough for Sundowns means that they will be back at work preparing for the Champions League instead of going away on a break following a tough PSL season, which ended at the weekend.

The draw is at 14:30 (SA time).
