Downs opened our eyes, says SuperSport's Williams

Cape Town - SuperSport United goalkeeper Ronwen Williams says Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates' success on the continent has provided an injection of self-belief.

Sundowns are the defending CAF Champions League champions, while Pirates reached the 2013 Champions League and the 2015 CAF Confederation Cup finals.

On Sunday, SuperSport booked their spot in the 2017 Confederation Cup final against TP Mazembe after an impressive 3-1 win away in Tunisia against Club Africain.

Williams says the success of PSL clubs in Africa over the last few years played a part in Matsatsantsa's continental achievement this season.

"The change in mindset regarding continental competitions has really helped us as a country," he told The Star. "What Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns did, opened our eyes and ensured that we can play anywhere on the continent without fear.

"Our ambition is to put SuperSport on the African map and grow the SuperSport brand on the continent. The only way to do that is to play in this space consistently and do well."

SuperSport next face Bloemfontein Celtic at the Dr Molemela Stadium in a Telkom Knockout round of 16 clash on Saturday.

Kick off is at 18:00.
