Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns defeated Chippa United 2-0 at Loftus Versfeld in the Absa Premiership on Wednesday evening.
The Chilli Boys looked to press and hurry Sundowns at every opportunity and a minute before the half-hour mark it forced an error from Wayne Arendse, who was caught in possession by Linda Mntambo, but Denis Onyango was quick of his line to mop up the danger.
Masandawana were gifted the lead in the 37th minute when both central defenders, James Okwuosa and Ayabulela Magqwaka failed to deal with a cross from Gaston Sirino from the right. The ball found its way to the back post which afforded Percy Tau a tap in for his 10th league goal of the season.
Ten minutes into the second half the league leaders almost doubled their advantage. Tebogo Langerman broke down the left and put the ball on a plate for Siyabonga Vilikazi but he was denied by Daniel Akpeyi who made a smart save with his feet.
Vladislav-Heric’s men came close to an equaliser fifteen minutes from time. Kurt Lentjies won the ball from Hlompho Kekana and found substitute, Mxolisi Machupu who went close with a long range effort.
Pitso Mosimane’s side doubled the lead with ten minutes to go. Khama Billiat broke free and beat Akpeyi with clever finish over the keepers leg to kill the game off.
