Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns are interested in signing 17-year-old KCCA midfielder Allan Okello, according to a report.
Sundowns advanced to the group phase of the CAF Champions League after beating Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) 3-2 on aggregate, following a 1-1 draw in the second leg in Uganda on Saturday.
Okello is an attacking midfielder whose style has been likened to that of Chelsea's Eden Hazard, and could be a potential replacement should Downs lose some of their top stars including Khama Billiat or Percy Tau to Europe, as has been speculated.
According to a Uganda journalist quoted by the Citizen publication, Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has shown some genuine interest in the young talent after the back-to-back matches against the Kampala club.
"He spoke to KCCA coach and later to the officials asking that they give him the boy. He sounded sincere and although he was not given an immediate answer, it looks positive," said the source.
Sundowns midfielder Tiyani Mabunda, meanwhile, took to Facebook to sing his praises about Okello's talent.
"Meet this young sensation 'Allan Okello'. At the age of [17], he is already competing at the highest level of football in the continent. I pray that God protects and preserves him from all attacks that may destabilise his hustle in the football industry.
"May his career be guarded by angelic hosts. I believe this boy is going to be a very valuable asset to come out of this continent by the grace of Jehovah," wrote Mabunda.
