Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane believes the club's ambition to compete for every major honour available to them is inspiring for his players.

The 2016 African champions are still alive in the CAF Champions League and appear to be strong favourites to win the Absa Premiership title. In addition, they are in the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup and will take on Maritzburg United for a place in the final.

"I will always tell players, my guys, we are in for a short time in football," Mosimane told reporters as quoted by Soccer Laduma website

"Time goes past us, but I always ask them, a player like Vila (Sibusiso Vilakazi), if you are not going to have the opportunity to play in Europe or probably maybe later, what would you like to do whilst you are in South Africa?

"Not only him as a player but any player in Africa, what would you like to do? We want to win the league, we want to win the Champions League, we want to win the Super Cup, you want to play in the FIFA World Cup, (and) you want to play for Bafana Bafana. What else?

"That's why he (Vilakazi) came to Mamelodi Sundowns and he won't regret that, that is the level, there is nothing bigger than that in the continent, what else can you get? So he is fortunate, he is in the right club, in the right space.

"Other cups you can always win here, those ones they come by every day, every year, but these special ones come once in a while. If you ask (Lionel) Messi in Europe what does he want to achieve?

"He wants to win the Champions League, he wants to win the league, Super Cup, World Cup with his country, and he wants to win the FIFA World Cup Club tournament. It is the same."

Meanwhile, the Brazilians handed Chippa United a 2-0 defeat at Loftus Versfeld in a Premiership clash on Wednesday evening.
