Cape Town - Midfielder Keegan Dolly has reflected on his first season with Mamelodi Sundowns, following his nomination for the PSL's top awards.
The 23-year-old helped the Brazilians to their seventh Premiership title, becoming a key member of an attacking trident (CBD) alongside Leonardo Castro and Khama Billiat, which contributed over 35 goals in all competitions.
The South African under-23 captain admits he did not expect to contest for the main awards, Footballer of the Season, Player's Player of the Season and Midfielder of the Season, with team-mates Hlompho Kekana and Khama Billiat.
"I came to Sundowns...things change you know," Dolly told KickOff. "For me at Sundowns it is about winning trophies, that is the reason why I joined the club.
"Just being part of Sundowns and being nominated for Footballer of the season is a massive stage for me - I never expected that [to be nominated] in my first season, coming to a big team. I'm proud of myself.
"For me, this season was about learning from the older guys like Teko Modise and Hlompho Kekana to gain all the experience I needed. This is something that I will cherish for the rest of my life."
"I knew that once I started gaining the experience playing for Ajax, coming [back] to Sundowns was going to be easy,I appreciate the opportunity Sundowns have given me," Dolly concluded.
