Doctor denies any beef with Komphela

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo says there is no truth to the rumours that he and head coach Steve Komphela have a poor relationship.

Khumalo was assistant to Komphela last season, but has lost his position to the newly arrived John Paintsil, who takes up his first major coaching role after ending his playing career a year ago.

According to a source quoted by The Star, there had been a rift between Khumalo and Komphela.

"The real reason for the changes in the technical team is that Steve and Doctor were not getting along. In one instance, the coach was giving a team talk and Doctor was on his phone. That was probably the biggest indication that they cannot work together and changes to the technical team had to be made," said the source.

But Khumalo told the same publication that it was always in the pipeline for him to go and work in the club's youth structures.

"I understand why people would think Steve and I didn't get along because this thing has been out there even before he arrived at Chiefs," he explained.

"But I can tell you now that the plan was to always have me working with the youth, especially after (Stuart) Baxter left. The club didn't want both of us to disappear because we had been around when discussions about a youth academy started."
