Dikwena without Mere, Ntuli for Cup opener

Cape Town - Platinum Stars will travel to Cape Town to face little known Steenberg United in the Nedbank Cup last 32 at the Athlone Stadium on Friday evening.

Over recent seasons Dikwena have found success in other cup competitions but the Nedbank Cup has evaded them.

Coach Cavin Johnson revealed during the week that he will be without key players for the clash.

Dikwena will be without captain Vuyo Mere and Ndumiso Mabena due to suspension while Sibusiso Msomi and Bongi Ntuli are sidelined due to injury.

Not much is known about their opponents from the Cape in the ABC Motsepe League coached by Mike Lukhubeni.

United recently took former Bafana Bafana international Terror Fanteni out of the football wilderness when they signed him last month.

On their books United also have former Wits midfielder Marawaan Bantam.
