Dikwena ready for City test

Cape Town - Platinum Stars and Polokwane City will meet for their first Nedbank Cup clash at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on April 2.

Kick-off is at 15:00.

Current form

Stars edged their way into the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup thanks to a penalty shootout win away to lower league side Steenberg United, while their most recent outing was a 1-0 home win over Black Aces in the top flight league.

Polokwane beat lower league side All Stars 2-0 to move into this phase of the competition and come into the match against Dikwena on the back of a 1-1 draw away to Free State Stars in their last outing in the top flight league.

Head-to-head history

While Stars and Polokwane have not met in a cup match before, they have clashed twice a season in the top flight league since the latter was promoted in 2013. On that count, Dikwena have claimed three wins (compared to two for Rise and Shine) from six matches. The teams have already had both of their league encounters for 2015/16: Polokwane won 1-0 at home back in November last year, while Stars claimed revenge with a 3-0 win in Rustenburg in the return match in February.

Nedbank Cup pedigree

Stars have never won the Nedbank Cup, nor reached the final. Their best showing arrived in 2013 when they reached the semifinals before falling to eventual runners-up SuperSport United. Last season they fell out at the last 16 stage after losing 3-1 to eventual champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

Polokwane have matched their best showing in the Nedbank Cup by reaching the Last-16 - they last appeared at this stage of the competition in 2013, where they were beaten by eventual champions Kaizer Chiefs.

Last season they exited the competition in the last 32 after losing 4-1 to SuperSport United.
