Dikwena hold Maritzburg to a stalemate

Cape Town - Platinum Stars and Maritzburg United played to a goalless draw at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg on Wednesday evening, in a clash that will not go down as a classic in the history books of the Absa Premiership.

The game, unfortunately, will be remembered for two red cards in the second stanza following a fight on the pitch. Kwanda Mngonyama and Khulekani Madondo seeing red for their involvement.

The Team of Choice threatened early through the pair of Kurt Lentjies and Andrea Fileccia who saw his shot fly inches over the crossbar. Lentjies, who has been in superb form for the KwaZulu-Natal, side denied by Mbongeni Mzimela.

With very little on offer in the final third of the pitch at either end of the park, Fadlu Davids looked to shake things up as he introduced the attacking duo of Mohau Mokate and Evans Rusike after the interval.

They, though, failed to proved the necessary spark with the biggest talking point of the match playing down in the 73rd minute as Mngonyama and Madondo received their marching orders.

In the end, Maritzburg tightened their grip on a top eight finish despite the draw. The point moving them four points clear of Ajax Cape Town while Dikwena remain 11th.
