Dikwena come from behind to beat Chippa

Cape Town - Platinum Stars came from behind to beat Chippa United 2-1 in an Absa Premiership game at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg on Friday night.

The victory sees Dikwena move up to ninth spot on the league table, while the Chilli Boys slip down to 10th on the standings.

Lerato Manzini and Rhulani Manzini, who had started upfront for the Chilli Boys, were hoping to continue their good scoring form for their side.

That's what Lerato Manzini did 19 minutes into game when he beat Stars goalkeeper Mbongeni Mzimela with a good finish to make it 1-0 to Chippa.

Sibusiso Msomi had a chance to equalise for Stars in the 25th minute, but Chippa keeper Daniel Akpeyi pulled off a decent save to deny the former.

The Nigerian shot-stopper was also alert nine minutes later to gather Stars attacking midfielder Robert Ng'ambi's well-taken cross.

Akpeyi and the Chilli Boys defence stood firm at the back in the remaining minutes of the first half and Chippa were leading 1-0 during the halftime break.

Stars continued to launch attacks in search of the equalising goal in the second half with Ng'ambi forcing Akpeyi into a save in the 56th minute.

However, the goal-minder was finally beaten a minute later when Siyabonga Zulu set up Ng'ambi, who hit the back of the net to make it 1-1.

The home side were now oozing with confidence when pushing forward and in the 63rd minute, Gerald Phiri saw his attempt saved by Akpeyi.

With 13 minutes left on the clock, Chippa coach Dan Malesela introduced attacking midfielder Tshwarelo Bereng as the away side searched for a late winner.

However, it was Benson Shilongo who snatched the winning goal for Stars in the 88th minute with a scorcher and the home side held on to win 2-1 on the night.
