Dikwena, AmaZulu renew their rivalry in Nedbank Cup

Cape Town - Platinum Stars and AmaZulu will renew their rivalry when they meet in the last 32 of the Nedbank Cup at Moruleng Stadium.

The teams were regular combatants until AmaZulu’s relegation at the end of the 2014/15 season, though they only met in two cup matches.

Both of those games were in the Telkom Knockout and both were won by the KwaZulu-Natal team. In 2007/08 Usuthu won 1-0 away from home in a last 16 clash, while in 2012/13 the team in green claimed a 2-1 home win, again in a last 16 tie.

The teams last met in league clashes in the 2014/15 campaign, with Dikwena winning their home match 4-2 before the return game in Durban ended in a goalless stalemate. In all, they have clashed in 22 matches across all competitions: AmaZulu have 11 wins compared to eight for Stars, while just three games were drawn.

Stars have never won the Nedbank Cup, though they reached the semifinals as recently as 2013. Last season they exited the competition in the last 16 after losing 2-1 after extra time at home to Polokwane City.

AmaZulu haven’t won the Nedbank Cup either, though they have been runners-up no less than six times: 1972, 1973 (as Zulu Royals), 1974, 1987, 1990 and 2010. Last season they were beaten in the last 32 on penalties by Jomo Cosmos.

The match is scheduled for Wednesday, March 15.

Kick-off is at 19:30.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
