Diakite fancies Stars' chances

Cape Town - Free State Stars goalkeeper Daouda Diakite believes his team is on the same level as Nedbank Cup semi-final opponents Orlando Pirates.

Stars will face the Soweto giants in the Cup semi-final at Goble Park on Saturday. Ea Lla Koto will be looking to qualify for a cup final for the first time since 1999 when they lost the Rothmans Cup to Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Burkina Faso international is optimistic that Stars can triumph over the Buccaneers at home.

"Right now I think we have a big chance of reaching the final because this is a game pitting two teams that are at the same level," Diakite told KickOff.

"I think we can do it. We are concentrating on the match and we want to get to the final so bad especially now that we have not been able to get into the top eight. This is all we have left to play for this season and so I feel we really need to make it count.

"Playing at home where we have also already beaten them this season is something that we should put to good use. For us small teams these are the moments that we enjoy and we really want to make it count."

Kick-off is at 15:00.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
