De Sa hoping for momentum after TKO win

Cape Town - Platinum Stars coach Roger De Sa would like to see his side taking momentum from their Telkom Knockout win over Maritzburg United into the PSL.

Maritzburg enjoyed the better of the chances in Friday's game but failed to score as the match went to extra time and then a penalty shoot-out, which Dikwena won.

It may not have been an overly-convincing victory, but it was Dikwena's first of the season and De Sa will be hoping it proves a morale-booster.

"Ideally, in the position we are in this would have been nice if it was a league win," he admitted.

"But hopefully this brings up some positive feelings in the squad and we can build up.

"The worst-case scenario would have been not to win after playing 120 minutes of football three days before the big game [against Ajax Cape Town in the league].

"Tired legs, long trip back home, and we're still going to play on Wednesday. At least with the win it makes you feel fresher."

De Sa feels that despite the poor overall run of form, his side have been a bit unfortunate not to have earned some better results.

"We drew with Orlando Pirates away, drew with Free State Stars away. We lost with a last-minute penalty against Golden Arrows, drew with AmaZulu, conceding another penalty.

"It's been very close, touch and go and sometimes the ball can drop in your favour or not."

Kick off is at 19:30.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
