Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town head coach Roger De Sa has spoken about his team's demanding trip to Angola for their CAF Confederations cup match against Sagrada Esperanca.
The Urban Warriors made an impressive start to the tournament with a 2-1 win over Sagrada at the Estadio Sagrada Esperanca on Saturday, with the two away goals coming from Ruzaigh Gamildien and Riyaad Norodien.
"It felt very good to come to Angola and win, although under trying circumstances. It was a full house, it took us 14 hours to arrive so it was almost a full day of travelling and then we played in the afternoon in very hot and very humid conditions," said De Sa.
Although it wasn't an entirely full-strength squad available to De Sa, the players who were selected all rose to the occasion and completed the job adequately enough to secure the win.
"The team consisted of a lot of younger players and players who haven't been playing regularly. Jody got a start, the back four is pretty new, only Lartey kept his place, up front Thomas, Ruzaigh, Diva and Asive Langwe were all brought in; Bantu came back from being out as well," he added.
"Overall it was a very good performance from everybody. We had control of the game throughout. We possibly could've scored more, but in the end I was very happy with the way the guys carried themselves. Hopefully we can finish the job back home," concluded De Sa.
The second leg between Ajax Cape Town and GD Sagrada Esperanca will be played on 27 February 2016, the venue and time will be confirmed.
