Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town manager Roger de Sa spared no punches in his assessment of his team following their CAF Confederation Cup exit at the hands of Sagrada Esperanca.
The Urban Warriors appeared to be in control after recording a 2-1 victory over the Angolan side in the first leg of their qualifying preliminary round clash a fortnight ago.
However, they produced a lacklustre performance in the return leg at home, with Esperanca securing a 2-0 victory to progress to the qualifying first round.
De Sa opted to give his fringe players the chance to impress in the second-leg tie, and was less than satisfied with their performance on the day.
"The players we gave an opportunity to didn't perform," he was quoted as saying by Sowetan Live.
"It was their chance to put their hand up and they didn't. At least now we know what we have.
"We hoped they would carry us through but they didn't. Too many players didn't come to the party.
"It's disappointing because it's not like we had young guys out there without experience. We had players who have not played for a while, but they have all got enough PSL [experience] in them to do the business. And they didn't.
"All we can do is take the horse to the water. If he drinks or not, that's up to him."
