Cape Town - Maritzburg
United head coach Fadlu Davids says he can have no complaints about his
squad despite suffering a 1-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus
Versveld on Wednesday evening.
The Team of Choice were unable to extend their unbeaten run in the Absa Premiership to five games after Percy Tau's second-half goal kept them out of the top half of the table.
However, Davids feels his side, who are now in ninth place, produced a professional display that they can look back at with pride as they prevented their more illustrious opponents from entering their half for large spells of the encounter.
"I can't fault the players. Absolutely fantastic performance from their side but we can be better in certain moments in terms of our pressing structures," he told SuperSport TV.
"Especially when we're pressing high up the pitch, especially not to allow them time to recycle. But I said before the game that they need one moment to score and they definitely took it.
"We had opportunities to score, especially with Evans [Rusike] one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Our pressing structures were good, creating that opportunity for Evans. We didn't take our opportunities.
"The players stuck to the task right up to the end. They pushed Sundowns up to the end. I'm so proud of them."
The Team of Choice next face Golden Arrows at the Princess Magogo Stadium in their final fixture for 2017 before the festive break.
Kick off is at 15:30.
