Daniels expecting an epic Absa Prem title battle

Cape Town - SuperSport United defender Clayton Daniels believes the race for the Absa Premiership title is still wide open after he helped his side beat Mamelodi Sundowns.

Matsatsansta moved up to 43 points thanks to a 2-0 win, courtesy of goals from Grant Kekana and Ghampani Lungu, just seven points behind pace-setters Orlando Pirates with four fixtures left to play.

Interestingly, the same result prompted Mamelodi Sundowns manager Pitso Mosimane to give up on his title hopes, even though the Brazilians are still a point ahead of SuperSport.

Clearly bouyed by the fantastic performance of his team on the night, Daniels believes that any one of the top teams in the standings could still be crowned champions.

"The league title is there for the taking. I think it's still wide open. This is going to be one of those seasons where it goes down to the last game. We just want to be there in the pack and raise our hands when it matters most," he told SuperSport.

"It was a very tough game, we did not come here to play for one point but we came for three points. I think everyone with a blue jersey deserves it [the Man of the Match Award]. Well done to the guys.

"We were up against Africa's best. You have to be organised. You have to be smart defensively. You can't just dive in and let them slip past you.

"Congratulations to the coach [Kaitano Tembo]. He told us 'this is is a smart team, you can't just go there gung-ho they are going to find gaps'. Tactically we were well organised, we got the goals in the right moments.

"We knew they man-mark in the box, so we practiced it at training where one has to block for another one. I told Grant [Kekana], you go far and I'll block here and you're going to be free. He went past me and got a goal. We train these things. Congratulations to the guys."
