Cape Town - Highlands Park coach Owen da Gama has tipped Kaizer Chiefs to win the Absa Premiership title after beating his side 3-0 on Wednesday evening.
Question marks over whether Chiefs would break their five-year trophy drought reared their head after the Amakhosi saw their lead at the top of the standings cut to four points after losing 2-1 to SuperSport United on Saturday.
But Ernst Middendorp's side responded in the best possible fashion with a dominant display against a decent Highlands outfit and after watching his side get outplayed, Da Gama believes Chiefs have it in them to go all the way.
The Lions of the North mentor also believes it would be a good thing for South African football if Chiefs were to win the title, due to their massive brand and following.
"I always say, if Kaizer Chiefs or Orlando Pirates win the league... Sundowns have won it a number of times now, but if one of the Soweto giants do it, it just augurs well for South African football," Da Gama told KickOff.
"The amount of work that goes into this brand of Kaizer Chiefs is just unbelievable, it’s mind-boggling. So, I definitely think it would be good for South African football (if Chiefs win the league this season).
"I think I can say, hopefully, they have a clean bill of health and the consistency continues, and I believe the Kaizer Chiefs players have got the mentality to go all the way. And we wish them all the best."
