Da Gama explains absence of Kaizer Chiefs loanee

Cape Town - Highlands Park coach Owen da Gama says that Kaizer Chiefs loanee Yusuf Bunting has not played regularly due to illness, injuries and his exams.

Since joining the club at the start of 2018/19, Bunting has played just one minute of Absa Premiership football at it appears he is not yet at the level to start.

The player made his name in Chiefs' MultiChoice Diski Challenge side but was sent to Highlands in order to get PSL experience.

However, thus far the 23-year-old is yet to make his mark for the outfit from Tembisa.

Da Gama told Kickoff: "He was rather unfortunate with injuries and then he was hospitalised with a throat infection for a couple of weeks. Then he also had to go write his exams, so we had to give him time off.

"For a team that's fresh in the PSL it's difficult, because we have to try keep the momentum going, but we can't be selfish and not allow him to go write his exams. We can't be selfish and not give him time to study. We can't be selfish and force him to play with injuries.

"He's been unfortunate, even if you go back to Chiefs. He's had a lot of injuries. We have been trying to build and get him as strong as possible, without being scared that we are building him for Chiefs. We have to do the right thing for the boy.

"He scored a goal in a friendly and he scored two in the MDC recently and another great one in training, so he is slowly getting there."
