CT City wanted Ngoma to replace Links

Cape Town - Cape Town City assistant coach Vasili Manousakis has revealed that the club tried to sign Mamelodi Sundowns player Aubrey Ngoma to replace the departed Gift Links but failed with a loan bid.

Links sealed a move to Danish SuperLiga outfit Aarhuis and Ngoma was a target to come to the Citizens, but the deal failed to materialize.

Ngoma played for the Mother City club before he transferred to Sundowns but he only made four appearances for the defending league champions last season, with the Citizens keen to take the player back on loan.

Manousakis said, according to KickOff: "Yeah look, the chairman obviously spoke to the head coach and we needed a replacement for Gift Links, and it was a perfect one with a player who knows the team, who knows the culture you know and had an outstanding season with us.

"He was one of those we were looking to bring but you know things are happening in football and it didn't work out that way, so it's best we move on.

"I think we requested a loan deal if I'm not mistaken, and the guys were really working on it hard on the deadline day a long time, for many, many hours but as I said it was one of those that were not meant to be you know.

"But look with the guys that we've got now we very happy."
