CT City to fine Erasmus over red card

Cape Town - Cape Town City owner John Comitis says the club will fine Kermit Erasmus for his sending-off in the 1-1 draw with Highlands Park on Tuesday.

Erasmus was red-carded in the 19th minute after he kicked out at Mothobi Mvala after the Highlands midfielder picked up the ball when the City striker was placing it for a free-kick.

This left the Citizens with a numerical disadvantage for more than two thirds of the match and was a major factor in them not being able to claim three points.

Comitis said that Erasmus was provoked but that was no reason to do what he did and that the 28-year-old striker 'crossed the line'.

"I’m disappointed that he allowed his emotions to get the better of him," Comitis told KickOff website.

"I can understand why he was frustrated because he was being badgered continuously, you know. And on top of that the referee does not give him the protection he needed. That said, I feel what Kermit has done is not in line with the spirit of the game.

"I like it if my players put their bodies on the line and give their all. But there is a line you should not cross and I’m afraid he crossed that line, and I’m very disappointed. We as the club shall have an internal hearing to take action against him."

City clash with relegation battlers Chippa United at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Friday night and Comitis believes it will be anything but an 'easy game'.

"There are no easy games in the league, especially at the business end of the season as teams are vying for honours and fighting off relegation," said Comitis.

"The top eight is so tight and it's a really exciting finish to the season."
