Cape Town - Cape Town City and SuperSport United played out to a 0-0 draw in Saturday's Absa Premiership clash at the Cape Town Stadium.
Both teams had chances but failed to capitalise as it went into the break all tied in the Mother City.
Craig Martin hit the post for the home team while Aubrey Modiba also had chances to break the deadlock.
It was a cagey start with both sides showing limited confidence in the final third, though the visitors made the first real opening through the ever present threat of Modiba.
In the second minute the player found space on the edge of the area before firing a strike on target. The goal-shy Citizens were probing without showing a real threat in the final third as goalkeeper Ronwen Williams remained largely untested.
However, they did continue to push forwards and it was Thabo Nodada who asked questions when he found space but fired over the bar when he may have done better.
With that said, coach Benni McCarthy's men were inches away from taking the advantage when Martin broke into an advanced position from out wide but his shot crashed into the post with a curling effort.
Yet, it was again the turn of the visitors not long after as the lively Modiba forced the alert Stephens into a save as he tipped over the crossbar in the 65th minute.
United were again closest to the opener though experienced winger Thuso Phala fired wide from a decent opportunity. In the closing stages, the impressive Bradley Ralani was unfortunate not to steer home an inch perfect cross as it ended goalless in the Mother City.
